Zoe McDougall

– bush life after many urban years – walking shorelines – collecting beaver wood – glass workshop -  thunderstorms rolling through the bay – great blue heron on the dock in the early morning mist -  hummingbirds dive bombing me in the garden – plants that grow well, or not – red sky at morning, sailors take warning…..   flag flaps in mighty winds – reddening tomatoes on the vine – skiing in the sunshine, skating on the lake – hot apple pie in the woodstove – fresh caught fish snapping and crackling  in the cast iron frying pan – crunchy oak leaves underfoot – ice booming on coldest nights – floating in fresh swampy smell of great lakes water – mink runs between my legs on lakeshore – otter playing at ice edge – early  morning paralytically cold dash to the outhouse – reading by oil lamp in power failures - skyping the family in far away places -  living my dream
